Doncaster residents will soon receive a new set of brown bins designed to separate recyclables and food waste, with a green box handling glass. These changes follow national legislation requiring local councils to establish kerbside collections for dry recyclables and food waste. While some areas, including Doncaster, Barnsley, Rotherham, and Sheffield, will adopt these measures until 2040, others remain exempt. Councillor Glyn Jones emphasized that adding a dedicated bin would align Doncaster with national standards and neighboring towns, acknowledging potential concerns about convenience. Clear instructions will guide residents, and the rollout is expected starting in autumn, with collection beginning in spring 2027. A cabinet meeting on 20 May will determine the plans' approval.
